The Gospel

Bible Study Subject

Someone asked, “Explain to me, just what is the gospel?”

The Gospel is the sum total of the saving Truth about Jesus as it is communicated to lost humanity (sinners).  His shed Blood on Calvary’s cross allows God to forgive sinners of All their sins; this is the message of Salvation.

It is
the revelation of God’s plan for reconciling man to Himself by forgiving his sin through the Precious Blood of Jesus His son and by transforming man’s / woman’s character from disobedience to righteousness.

The Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ, that He has
become our Circumcision and our Sacrifice unto God for our sins.  The Gospel is good news because it tells us that we who were once lost in sin can now be free from sin and have the Right to Eternal Life and to have the Right to enter into the Kingdom of God at the time appointed.

St. Matthew 4:23, states, "And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people."

Jesus, Himself was telling the people of that day and time
that He is the Gospel, the Good News.  And He told everyone that loved to go and do the same.

What is the Kingdom of Heaven?  The Kingdom is where God
rules and reigns in righteousness; where there will be no sickness, no death and ALL will be Peace for ever more.  Praise His Holy Name!

The Kingdom of God is Righteousness,
Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost.

Matthew said in St. Matthew 24:13-14, “But he that shall
endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.  And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

One would think that the Gospel has already been preached
to all the World by now.  This may be true however, in Galatians 4:1-7, the Scriptures state that the Saints will receive their inheritance at the Time Appointed.

Very simply put, the Good News that Jesus has come to take
away the sins of the word is the Gospel.  It is the witness of what Jesus has done and is willing to do for those who are willing to accept Him into their heart and life.

In St. Mark 1:1 we read, "The beginning of the gospel of
Jesus Christ, the Son of God;"

Again in St. Mark 1:15, it states saying “the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

In St. Mark 16:15-16, Jesus plainly said unto them, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

In St. Luke 4:18-19, we find the following statement by
Jesus, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

If a person were locked up in a prison and someone came and
told them that they were freed from prison, this would no doubt be Good News to that person.

In Acts 15:7-9, the Apostle Peter said, “Men and brethren,
ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.  And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith."

The Gospel is also accepting, through Faith the Word of
God ~

The Patriot Abraham accepted by faith never seeing
the end results that God would make of him a great nation.

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the
heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, "In thee shall all nations be blessed."  Galatians 3:8

Romans 10:17 states that, “So then faith cometh by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God.”

Without hearing the Word of God, one cannot have Faith.

Jesus is the Word of God; Jesus is the Word made Flesh;
Jesus is the Faith.  Jesus reveals Himself through His written Word.

St. John 1:1-2 states, "In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God."

It further states in St. John 1;14, “the Word (Jesus) was
made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.”

Therefore, he that receiveth Jesus receiveth The Faith.

Jesus is the measure of Faith mentioned in Romans 12:3.

The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 1:8, “though we, or an
angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" Romans 10:13 & 15

"Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my
gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting
God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:"
Romans 16:25-26

"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."
2nd Corinthians 4:3-4

"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve
through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye
have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him." 2nd Corinthians 11:3-4

A person needs to be cautious that they do not follow
anything that is not written in the Word of God.  A word may sound reasonable and feel good but if is not in the Word of God, it may not be true.

In Galatians 2:7, Paul said, “the gospel of the
uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;”

"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of
truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise." Ephesians 1:13

"For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in
power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake." 1st Thessalonians 1:5

1st Peter 1:25 & 2:1-5, "The word of the Lord endureth for
ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.  Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.  To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ."

"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house o
f God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?"
1st Peter 4:17

In Revelation 14:6-7 we read, “And I saw another angel fly
in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.”

"Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of
entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.  For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it." Hebrews 4:1-2

Let’s conclude then, that the Gospel is the Word of God
from Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21.  As the Scriptures state in Isaiah 28:10-13, “here a little and
there a little, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.”

The wisest man that ever lived besides Jesus said, “Buy the
truth and sell it not.”  Proverbs 23:23

May the Heavenly Father richly bless and keep you as you
follow on to know and serve Him.  Praise His Holy Name!
