In reference to Christian living, salvation is the act of receiving the saving of your soul by the Lord Jesus Christ who died for your sins so that you no longer are in bondage to sin.
What does the blood of Jesus do for us?
The Bible states that the blood of Jesus cleanses from all sins.
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin."
1st John 1:7
"For the son of man is come to seek and to save that which is lost."
St. Luke 19:10
What is your part in receiving Salvation?
The part you must take in receiving salvation is, to ask for and receive by faith your forgiveness from sin. It is a gift to you from God. Those who were present on the day of Pentecost when the spirit fell on the disciples asked Peter, "What must we do to be saved?" "Paul said, "Believe ye on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved and as many as believed were saved." If you want salvation from sin, you are to ask God, for Christ’s sake, to forgive you of your past sins.
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto Salvation.”
Romans 10:10
One example of this is stated in Hosea which says, "Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto him, take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips."
Hosea 14:2
What is the Principal part of receiving Salvation?
Confess and Believe!
Without faith it is impossible to be saved. When you receive salvation you are to tell others of the wonderful gift you have received. The Bible says "with the heart one believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Does Salvation guarantee you a place in heaven?
No! Getting into heaven is guaranteed only if you follow the rules the Lord has admonished you to follow and those rules are not hard to follow.
Salvation, is it by works only?
No. There are lots of people following most of the rules but have not accepted Christ as Saviour. I asked a man once if he was saved. He said to me; "I mind my own business, and help others." I said to him, this is the way to live but to be saved you must ask God, in Jesus Christ’s name, to forgive you of your past sins, then keep living the right way after you are saved.
What are the requirements of God?
The first thing the Bible says is that you must believe that God is and that he is a rewarded of them that diligently seek him. And, if in truth you don't know for sure there is a God, he tells you that he proves his existence by prophecy: telling the future before it happens.
For instance: "Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, thence will I bring you down."
Obadiah 1:4
(We are currently doing this. We call them space stations)
Another prophecy says, "For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord."
Hosea 4:10
(We have multitudes of people committing whoredom everyday and babies are paying the price. We call this abortion)
One more prophecy we can look at was written two thousand years ago. John made the following statement: "And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; the name of the star is called wormwood: and a third part of the water became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter."
Revelation 8:10
A few years ago our government stated that one third of our water was no longer fit to drink. Today as you travel, some of the most beautiful countryside in Oregon, you will see signs posted warning the public not to swim or drink the waters: because they are contaminated!
If you are still unsure of God's existence: "Come let us reason together saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land: but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it."
Isaiah 1:18-20
Here God tells those that do not believe that He is real, to come and reason with him, talk it over and prove him. Also, the way a person lives after becoming a Christian is just as important. These ways are simple: you are to live a quiet and peaceful life. Not to gossip, or break the laws of the land, unless in some way they break God's commands.
God’s children are not to be drunkards, gamblers, thieves, jokers, given to anger, or dissemblers. In other words, live like Christ did. Read the story of his life in the gospels and imitate the way he lived.
How do we know His Salvation is still for today?
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
St. John 3:16
The Lord has never changed his mind about salvation. He paid the ultimate price for salvation through Jesus, His only begotten son.
Many try to say that in today’s world things have changed and that doing what is right is no longer needed.
Listen to the following scriptures:
"Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."
Proverbs 30:6
"I know that, whatsoever God doeth it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him."
Ecclesiastes 3:14
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book."
Revelations 22:18-19
I will end by saying that God is always willing to receive those who are calling out. Do not be discouraged. Take heart to what He has said: "All that the father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."
St. John 6:37
Believe it, God is there for you!
