Eating Meat
Bible Study Subject

~ Regarding the eating of meat or not eating meat ~

Let me start by giving you an idea of how I base my life. I try to use the Word of God to order every aspect of my life by speaking the Word.  For instance, Jesus said, "resist the devil and he will flee."   "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7

How are we to resist the devil, one might ask?  The answer is simple, follow the example of Jesus.  Jesus used the Word of God to resist the devil.

Furthermore, Jesus said, "I am your example, follow me."  "For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you." St. John 13:15

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17

"Whatsoever is not of faith is sin." Romans 14:23 (in part)

"Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. *For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.  *Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him." Romans 14:1-3

The Scripture regarding being weak in the Faith isn’t talking about a person that is physically weak, but one that is weak in the Faith.  Romans 10:17 says,  “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; *Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;  *Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth." 1st Timothy4:1-3

Therefore, one might conclude that a person that is weak in the Faith is actually weal in the Word of God.

"Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means." 2nd Thessalonians 3:16

Unclean Foods

This subject is one that could cost you your eternal life if you don't
understand it. Many preachers in America think that after Christ died one can eat any thing they desire. This is far from the truth. The subject starts in Geneses and goes to Revelation. No where in the Bible does it name an unclean beast or fowl, then says that it can now be eaten.

The apostle Paul wrote many scriptures that seem to say you can eat what you will and it is OK. I will explain what he says according to the Bible.

Roman's 14:14 in part says, "I am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of it's self. But to him that believeth it is unclean to him it is unclean."

What Paul is saying here is: "If God does not call a thing unclean then, it is not unclean."  To prove this is true go to 2nd Corinthians 6:17, here Paul says, come out from among them and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you sayeth the Lord.

The same man saying in one place that there are things that are unclean, and not to be touched, in another place is also saying that he is persuaded by the Lord that there is nothing unclean of it's self.

There are those who will cite the 23rd verse of Romans 14 and say, "I have faith therefore, I can eat whatever I want."  You can only have faith if the Bible backs it up.  Check Romans 10:17, where it says, "faith comes from hearing the word of God."
Another hard scripture is 1st Timothy 4:1-5 - This scripture will let you know man can back-slide (leave God for the devil) here it says these backsliders are telling people they are not to marry, or eat things God created to be eaten.

The things that God created to be eaten are what verse four and five refer to.  When they say that every creature of God is good and nothing to be refuses, if it be received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer. The word sanctified means set aside, and you won't find in the Bible where it names an unclean thing and states it is now good for food of man.

In Geneses 1:29, God said that He had given man every herb bearing seed for food. He also gave him every tree that bore fruit with seed. Therefore, it was not an apple that Adam ate, because apples have seed. You want to remember that the herbs were given with restrictions, "to those, which bear seed."

In Geneses 9:3it is stated that every moving thing that lives, shall be meat for man's food, even as the green herb, have I given you all things. IN OTHER WORDS WITH RESTRICTIONS.

You will note in the 7th chapter of Geneses, God told Noah to put in the ark seven pair of clean animals, and two pair of the unclean ones. God did not have to tell Noah which ones were clean. He already knew.

You can turn to the 11th chapter of Leviticus and find a list of clean and unclean things. You will note that you can eat things that will make you abominable. Check out the 43rd verse of Leviticus -chapter 11  -  Isaiah 65:1-6 says, that God is not pleased with those that eat unclean things.

Isaiah 66:17, also says, you can be made abominable by what you eat.  It further states that those who eat these things would be consumed. Sounds bad don't it?

Revelations 21:8 says, there will no abominable thing get into the kingdom of God. So, if you have been eating these things you should confess it to God and ask Him to forgive you.

Many people also bring up Acts 10:9-16, concerning the sheet being let down, and the angel saying Peter rise kill and eat. You will note that there were all manner of four- footed beast on the sheet. Peter could have killed a cow or a goat but he chose not to, saying nothing common or unclean had ever been his mouth.

The Angel told him not to call what God had cleansed common or unclean. You will note that the Angel never said that God cleansed any thing on the sheet, or vessel that came down.

Also note Acts 10:28, here Peter reveals that the Angel was referring to man that God had cleansed not beast.

Revelations 18:2 states, that there are unclean fowl at that time. The subject starts in Geneses and stops in Revelation. No where does it name an unclean beast, and say it can now be eaten.

Paul talks about things offered to idols, which he says don't amount to anything, as for as God is concerned. But that we were not to eat of it if this would offend a weak brother.
